The Role of Teachers at Outdoor School
Teachers are essential partners in the Waskowitz experience. We view classroom teachers not just as participants but as co-collaborators in outdoor learning.
At outdoor school, teachers can help:
- Bridge classroom and outdoor learning
- Support student growth in new environments
- Build classroom community through shared experiences
- Encourage curiosity and reflection alongside Waskowitz staff
We value the knowledge, relationships, and context that classroom teachers provide to inform and strengthen the learning that happens in the forest.
Together, we create a learning environment where students feel seen, supported, and inspired — both at Waskowitz and back at school.

My students came back with so much more confidence. Our community is stronger, they seem more capable of trying hard things. Even their listening skills seem better after returning from Waskowitz. In general, their connection to nature, the land, and science is stronger.
